Finding Your Bedrock

The fable “Sealskin Soulskin” as told by Clarissa Pinkola Estes in Women Who Run With the Wolves, floated into my thoughts after reading an article about AI turning our sketches into a finished artwork.

These seemingly unrelated topics are held together in contrast: the fable speaks to honoring our deep knowingness within, through our journey, to understand our truth. The article about AI finishing our artwork offers the shortcut option to finish “Our Journey” AKA sketch, without our full participation.

It seems to me, being true to your artistic soul means you have found your bedrock. Just as the mother knew she had to return to the sea for her soul to survive, we have to make art for our soul to survive.

It seems to me, having a computer program finish the sketch that originated from our inner energy cheats us out of the whole journey to our truth.

Or maybe the tracks in my brain have yet to build grooves for the AI terrain. . .

But something called her, something older than she, older than he, older than time.

That’s right: Input your napkin doodles and half-sketched masterpieces and AI will produce a complete image. (Well, sort of.) - Elaine Velie, Hyperallegic
